General Luna, our salvation or destruction in the future?

October 1, 2015 at 5pm, after school, I immediately watch the movie “Heneral Luna” so I can start my blog for Ms. Eliz’s requirement. But after watching the movie, I felt guilty for only watching it just to meet my requirement. It was a great movie, I didn’t expect to be more entertained while watching it, I realize there are a lot of things that I don’t know yet about Philippine history.

The movie shows everything about nationalism- General Luna’s love for our country, you can see it through his efforts, crave for power- how did some people do everything to bring him down, bravery- he showed how bold he is when he fought with the American soldiers, cowardice- how did some Filipino soldiers ran away during their fight, leadership- he showed how great he is ruling an army of soldiers, determination- he showed how much he can do for his country by gathering 4000 soldiers within 3 days, 2000 is only expected by some of his advisers but he succeeded getting the number above the expected amount, desperation- how did he do everything just to fulfill his plans to free the country, betrayal- how he was killed by his own fellowmen and failure- how his death lead the Filipinos to surrender themselves to the Americans. General Luna, an Ilocano born in Manila, was one of the best generals known in the Philippine History for showing his excellence in tactic defense against the Americans. Heneral Luna was portrayed by John Arcilla.

It also portrays the conflict between Filipinos and among themselves, how important is to have unity instead of rivalry. Many Filipino believe that Americans are plotting something and some believe that they were just trying to help us and form an alliance. I can’t blame both of the sides, because one of them is telling the truth. We never know what the others intention is, but one thing is for sure, everyone will not do things without a purpose.

I encourage everyone to watch this movie, it’s really good. Because of this my mind is now slowly being clarified about the history of my country, the Philippines. Personally, I think everything will be better if only General Luna has not been killed, I don’t know what the future maybe but one thing is certain, everything will change.
